Q&A with Ben Mottershead, Operations Director

We sat down with Bradite Operations Director, Ben Mottershead, to talk about the recent upgrades to One Can’s formulation.

Read the Q&A to find out more about One Can, including its unique properties and the introduction of Bradite’s first colour card…

1. Why did Bradite choose to launch their own colour card?

“The original offering of Bradite was many hundreds of products and many thousands of colours. We still have many thousands of colours in our RAL, NCS, BS range, but we wanted to offer our customers a little more guidance in terms of colour selection. Whilst the Bradite offering is still very technically driven, we wanted to provide some colour knowledge in addition, to aid that decision making.”

2.What is included on the new colour card?

“The Bradite colour card was chosen with 54 specific colours. It’s not a very large card but it’s designed to give you a highly usable, versatile colour offering. The palette includes some nice whites, off-whites and neutrals, and some fashionable blues and greens. On the right-hand side, you then have a selection of high chroma shades which are more traditional Bradite colours. These are Roadline style colours that you might use in an engineering or factory setting, or for painting a down pipe or some railings. The colour card is designed for those who want some easy guidance, as well as colours that are fashionable and easy-to-use”

3.Is One Can still available in RAL, BS and NCS Colours?

““The 54 colours on the colour card include a curated version of the standard NCS, RAL and BS range, alongside some colours that have been specially created. Of course, we still have those NCS, RAL and BS colours available to tint if you’re looking for a broader colour range”

4. What makes the One Can formula unique?

“The aim with One Can has always been about simplification and putting as much functionality into the formula as possible. Within One Can, there is a primer and topcoat in one. It sticks to melamine, glass and tile, as well as all building plastics. It also has an element of stain blocking in it, so it will block tanins, food stains, water stains and nicotine stains. Thanks to the latest upgrade, it now contains anti-mould and anti-mildew technology, fire certification and a scrub rating of class 1. So it’s an incredibly versatile product that can do lots of different things for a decorator. Rather than going down the road of differentiating each of these individual tasks, One Can brings a lot of that functionality into one product, which saves time and effort for the user.”

5. What are the latest updates to the One Can formula?

“The first update for One Can is scrubbability: it now has a Class 1 scrub rating. One Can scrubs over 10,000 times, so it provides superior durability on interior and exterior surfaces.

The second benefit is its anti mould properties: it’s ideal for mouldy or mildewy areas within the house. We have doubled the level of anti-fungal ecocides within the formula, and we have had it tested by an external laboratory for 100 common moulds you will find in the house, where it has performed superbly."

6. The updated formula also includes Class 1 scrub rating. What was the testing process for this?

“When tested by our technicians in our Laborotary, the One Can formulation would scrub 10,000 times without losing a particular weight or breaking the felp. This offers great reassurance that it will be incredibly durable on your walls, woodwork, metalwork and more.”
